Funding for resorts

Fairground at skegness

The government announced today additional spending to help England’s seaside resorts. The £5m pledged will be allocated across 32 resorts so presumably to make much impact will need to lever additional funds locally or regionally.

The scheme is part of a wider regeneration strategy which includes extra powers for councils to deal with low-quality housing, help in securing lottery money to revamp historic piers and for promotion.

St Ives, Hastings and Scarborough are given as good examples of places where regeneration has been particularly successful.
